Isadora Duncan Technique and Repertory
“The highest intelligence in the freest body”
~Isadora Duncan
Discover the technique of the mother of modern dance. During a Duncan master class, the fundamental principles of the Duncan technique are examined: the use of the solar plexus, gesture, focus, musicality. Technique and repertory are both available, and it is possible to add a short unit on the life, work and philosophy of Duncan, herself a productive author.
Studying this simple yet sophisticated technique, today’s dancer reaches a deeper knowledge of their body, and a more facile communication of intention in dance, improving their performance quality and stage presence.
Julia Pond, as a 4th generation Duncan dancer and former member of Lori Belilove’s Isadora Duncan Dance Company, is uniquely qualified to teach the technique and repertory. Ms. Pond has performed the Duncan repertory in the USA and Europe. Her principal teachers are Ms. Belilove and Cherlyn Smith, and she has additionally received coaching as a member of the Company from Julia Levien, 2nd generation Duncan dancer. Ms. Belilove and Julia Levien are direct pupils of Irma and Anna Duncan.
